As the southernmost commercial vineyard in the world, you would expect Otronia’s Pinot Noir to be rather wild… and it is! With notes of shitake and raspberry, it’s a playful wine with a striking, electric acidity and a mouthwatering finish with chalky tannin.

Otronia winery is certainly in Patagonia Extrema (extreme Patagonia), in fact, it claims to be the southernmost vineyard in the world – planted at 45’33 S in the wild steppes of Sarmiento, Chubut. Owned by Argentine billionaire, Bulgheroni, this is no small investment and with 50 hectares planted near to a cherry orchard. 

Producing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a white blend (of Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris) to date, there’s surely more to come from this Patagonian portfolio soon.

Montsecano is a cult producer in Chile. This small production of biodynamic wines from one of the cooler parts of Casablanca, really hits the spot with its Pinot Noir. Fragrant with dense black cherry, granite and sage notes, it’s a full-bodied wine that lingers.

Montsecano’s Pinot Noir was one the first in Chile to gain a cult following. With a biodynamic vineyard in Casablanca, the boutique Montsecano winery became known for its Pinot Noir but has now diversified into Chardonnay and a Malbec – Pinot Noir blend. Minimal intervention, natural wines made by Julio Donoso and Andre Ostertag in their egg-shaped underground winery.

Tangy and mineral, this coastal Pinot Noir from the slate soils of Aconcagua is one of Chile’s finest. With great length and purity, it is a focused and driven Pinot noir that will age like a dream.

A key player in Aconcagua and the family that really put this region on the map, Viña Errázuriz was founded in 1870 and continues to innovate today. While most of the portfolio is focused on rich mountain reds (with notable Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Syrah), the iconic Las Pizarras line of wines shows their increasing focus on cooler coastal sites in Aconcagua where slate soils offer the perfect site for complex yet refreshing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.

Winemaker Francisco Baettig is also in charge of their excellent Seña wine. You can visit the handsome old cellar and state of the art winery in Panquehue, and stay for lunch with a special wine paired menu. A leader in Aconcagua.
