Cara Sur winery is the boutique project of winemaker Sebastian Zuccardi and his winemaking wife Marce, and of agronomist Pancho Bugallo and his wife Nuria. The foursome make artisanal wines from old vines of Criolla varieties (including Criolla Chica, Moscatel Rosada, Moscatel Tinto and Moscatel Blanco) and Bonarda in the high altitude region of Barreal in Calingasta Valley (which is closer to Uspallata in Mendoza than San Juan).
Cara Sur wines are named after the challenging southern face of the nearby mountains, which Pancho – as an avid mountaineer – has spent many of his most hair-raising moments scaling.
