San Juan
The Antigua Bodega winery in San Juan became an important monument in the city when during the 1944 earthquake most of the city of San Juan fell down and the local residents sought refuge in the building where the bodega lies today. In 1990, Luís Víctor Chirino, a key figure at the vanguard of the building industry in San Juan and a wine enthusiast, invested in vineyards and two wineries, renovating the old building which opened its doors in 1994.
Luís’ wife, Azucena, was instrumental in finding local artists to paint the new winery which now houses an art gallery with the family’s art collection. Antigua Bodega winery also has its own museum.
