Alta Vista
A French-run project that focuses on single vineyard wines from Lujan de Cuyo, Alta Vista is housed in a beautifully refurbished century-old winery. Alta Vista is a petit piece of France to Argentina with French owners, a French winemaker, and this is also the French consulate in Mendoza!
One of the early French investors in Argentine wine, Alta Vista is owned by Count Patrick d’Aulan whose family owned Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck for over a century. Single vineyard Malbec is their speciality as well as Bordeaux style blends. They do a good Torrontes and nice sparkling wines.
As you can guess there is quite a Francophile feel to the place and in the wines, the building however is typical of a historic Argentine, Spanish-influenced winery. Handsome from the outside and well equipped from the inside, a visit gives good detail into the process and the different ways you can go about it while reinforcing Alta Vista’s own methodology. At the end of the tour you end in the tasting room where you can pick from their wine flights that are organized by terroir, variety or price point. If you have the time, finish up in the gardens with a picnic and a few glasses of wine.
