Entre Vilas winery and boutique natural wine production is the passion project of berry grower Rodrigo Veraldi Ismael who developed the umbrella technique in Serra da Mantiqueira. All the vines are protected by large plastic umbrellas to avoid health issues in the heavy summer rains and allow for ripening of his red and rosé varieties. A visit to Entre Villas is best enjoyed at the weekend when Rodrigo Veraldi Ismael’s popular restaurant packs out with visitors ready to drink his wines and delight on the slow food over the vineyards.

Ventura
Ferreira
Ferreira winery is a new and growing wine production using umbrella technique (covering its vines from rainfall) on the border between São Paulo and Minas Gerais in Brazil. The 8 hectare vineyard is located at 1,650 metres altitude and protects its vines from the heavier summer rainfalls with plastic netting as designed by Rodrigo Veraldi Ismael from Entre Villas.
Deep red soils offer good drainage in this high altitude wine region and the first vintages of these wines show promise. Although you’ll have to visit the winery to be able to taste them – they are a sell out in their popular winery restaurant.
Terra Nossa
Terra Nossa winery and vineyards is a project between friends and led by Chilean winemaker Cristian Sepúlveda who has been making wine in the Serra de Mantiqueira for over a decade. He is at the forefront of the winter harvest movement in Brazil.
With a classy selection of Syrah wines at the moment, this boutique project is set to expand soon as the friends are planting more hectares and different varieties in higher and higher altitude vineyards.
