Los Confines is a wine made from old Moscatel vines which are inside a prison in Malleco, southern Chile. Yes – inside a prison. As part of a social responsibility program to train the incarcerated in new professions, VICAP (Viñas Capitán Pastene) winery owners Raúl Narvaez Reyes and Juan Pablo Lepín Leonelli spend time training the prisoners on how to tend the vineyard from pruning through to harvest. The vineyard inside the prison is of Moscatel vines over 100 years old. VICAP is also set to produce a Syrah and Sangiovese.
