Amalia winery was originally known as the Santa Ana winery which was founded by winemaker Adolfo Basso and his brother, Tulio, in 1935 and ended up being one of the biggest producers in the area. In 1995, the Basso family decided that they wanted to go back to their roots of small production winemaking and they therefore sold Santa Ana and founded Bodega Amalia.
The Amalia winery is based in an old bodega which was built in 1930 but remained abandoned from 1965 to 1997, until the Basso family renovated the building whilst restoring its original foundations. Although the winery is based in Lujan de Cuyo, Amalia has two vineyards in the Uco Valley.
