Located on one of the highest altitude vineyards in Cachapoal, Calyptra winery and its wines are all about the mountain influence. Almost 1,000 metres above sea-level, the Alto Cachapoal vineyard benefits from intense sunlight and cool nights.
This family winery has Emiliano Dominguez Battocchia as winemaker, and a couple highlights in the portfolio include a barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon.
Caliterra winery is in the heart of Colchagua and a branch of Errazuriz. Spread over an enormous 1,085 hectare estate, Caliterra only has a fifth of it planted (210 hectares) with Merlot, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and a touch of Viognier.
In general, the wines from Caliterra winery are full and rich with the exception of the DSTNTO line that uses carbonic maceration for a jovial and juicy easy-to-drink option.
Clos de los Siete is a wine community in Vista Flores, set in an 850-hectare estate with five different wineries inside. The concept was orchestrated by renowned flying winemaker Michel Rolland who invited six other Bordeaux wine families to invest in the virgin territory in 1999 and plant a large vineyard.
Four of the five wineries make a wine together each year – the Clos de los Siete blend. These four wineries are also open for tourism and can be visited as part of a Clos de los Siete tour:
Michel Rolland is famous for making wine all over the world but it is here in Mendoza’s Uco Valley where he decided to open his own winery – Bodega Rolland. At the end of the Clos de los Siete property, Rolland has just over 60 hectares of his own there planted with a range of white and red varieties which make up the Mariflor portfolio of wines.
Bodega Rolland winery isn’t much to look at from the outside but, on the inside, you’ll see that it was designed with the winemaker in mind. You can visit the deeply functional and technical winery by organising a visit at Clos de los Siete.
