Trapiche’s Costa y Pampa winery (formerly Mar & Plata) in Chapadmalal is part of a new coastal wine region emerging, and leading the way in Argentina’s new coastal wines. Just a couple kilometres from the Atlantic coast in the popular beach resort of Mar del Plata and five hours south of Buenos Aires city, this maritime terroir is ideal for fresh Gerwürztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Albariño and Pinot Noir.

About Costa y Pampa

One of the most exciting vineyard developments in Argentina this past decade, Trapiche’s Costa y Pampa vineyard was first planted in 2009 as a daring experiment but has gone on to become the vinous face of Argentina’s coast. Now with over 40 hectares of vines planted on the gentle slopes of Chapadmalal, just a few kilometres from the Atlantic sea, this coastal climate produces wines of balance and freshness.

Right near the coastal resorts of Mar del Plata, the winery is a popular wine tasting visit especially in the summer.

About the vineyards

Winery guide for Argentina, and visit Costa y Pampa winery in Buenos aires

With vineyards planted just a few kilometres from the sea, there is a significant maritime influence on the terroir.

The top layers of soil are fertile organic material and clay, with a subsoil with calcareous deposits.

Costa y Pampa wines

The whites are my favourites so far: tangy, citrus-y Albariño; mouthwatering, saline Chardonnay; and grassy, fresh Sauvignon Blanc. But there’s also a fresh and juicy Pinot Noir and a couple of racy traditional method sparkling wines, including a rosé, to imbibe on.

Each wine represents the maritime climate and focuses on freshness and varietal character.
