Founded in 1997 as a partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild (Bordeaux) and Concha y Toro (Chile), Almaviva was shooting for the stars since the start. Almaviva winery makes one top blend, the eponymously named Almaviva, which comes from their single estate of 60 hectares in Puente Alto in Maipo valley.

The blend is usually Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, with Carmenére, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in different measures, depending on the vintage. The rocky, poor soils in Puente Alto work well with the warm, sunny days and cool evenings to produce wines of concentration and depth with great longevity. Almaviva has been one of the most prized wines of Chile since its first vintage in 1996.
