The South America Wine Guide took the award for the Best Debut Drink Book last week in a star-studded evening in The Royal Exchange in London at the annual Fortnum & Mason Awards. Author Amanda Barnes was awarded after a panel of judges selected The South America Wine Guide out of the best wine and drinks books of the year.
The Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards is now in its 10th year and celebrates the achievements of current and emerging writers, editors, publishers, photographers, broadcasters and personalities who ‘encourage us to enjoy, explore, experiment and discover more about food and drink through their work’.
“I’m absolutely thrilled with the recognition and award – not only for the book, but for South American wine,” said Amanda Barnes. “When I started writing The South America Wine Guide I was told by a couple of publishers that there wasn’t enough interest in South American wine to warrant a book this size… this award, and also the feedback of many readers, goes to prove them wrong! We need more literature on South American wine, it deserves its space on the bookshelf!”
The South America Wine Guide by Amanda Barnes & Amigos will now be stocked by Fortnum & Mason and sold in their stores in the UK.
Fortnum & Mason, established in 1707, is one of the most celebrated department stores in the world and has supplied many Royal families around the world since the Victorian era. It is known to be one of the favourite shops of Queen Elizabeth and at the Food & Drink Awards evening on 12th May, Fortnum & Mason also unveiled the official pudding for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year — celebrating 70 years as Queen of the United Kingdom.
