Renowned Argentine winemaker Susana Balbo and her daughter Ana Lovaglio Balbo have opened a new luxury hotel in Mendoza with a concept of a ‘home away from home’ and customised luxury tourism experiences. Susana Balbo Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites is a handsomely restored villa with stunning artwork and a large pool and relaxation area, which leads out onto the seven individual spa suites.
A winemaker’s house in the heart of Chacras, Mendoza
The house itself is a stunning refurbished property, which has stunning artwork throughout, in the middle of the village of Chacras in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. As you open the main entrance door you are greeted by a beautiful large artwork by renowned plastic artist Sergio Roggerone — The Tree of Life. It is this artwork which inspired the names and themes in each suite: origin, coraje (courage), huella (footprints), legado (legacy), nosotros (us — family), audacia (boldness) and temple. There’s a lot of thought behind the artwork throughout the hotel, and there’s always a host on hand to walk guests through the art works and stories behind them.
The other main ethos behind the luxury digs is wellness, hence why each suite has its own spa inside and there’s always a Wellness Butler on hand. The standard spa suites have a steam shower, heated soaking tub and an evening turndown with aromatherapy oils. While the top suites also have their own sauna in the room.
Another nice touch is that every guest gets a 15-minute welcome massage on arrival too, and there are plenty of additional spa services you can book to unwind fully.
Susana Balbo’s wine and tourism experiences
As you would expect from a winemaker’s family, wine is also at the core of the stay here. A special lunch and visit to Susana Balbo’s winery in nearby Agrelo is included, as is a special tasting of seven wines in the hotel. There are also lots of other wine experiences you can choose from, including winemaking classes, pairing experiences, making wine cocktails in the hotel bar and booking a spot at the Chef’s Table in the house.
What is perhaps most unique about Susana Balbo Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites though is outside the hotel, and in the sky. Susana Balbo bought her own private hybrid plane, which she allows guests to hire in their unique Air Safaris. The customised tours can take you in almost any direction from Mendoza: with the gorgeous Esteros del Iberá wetlands as one option, as well as Patagonia to the south and Cafayate to the north. It seems the sky’s the limit at the new Susana Balbo Hotels.
You might ask why it is Susana Balbo Hotels, plural… This luxury hotel in Chacras is just the tip of the iceberg it seems. There’s already a mountain lodge in the woodwork, which will open in 2023. Keep your ears peeled, and diaries open!
