Tasting the different terroirsTerroir is more than soil. It is the cultural, historical and environmental impact that makes a wine what it is. This grassroots wine tour looks at the integral threads of Mendoza’s terroir: people, history, culture and the environment, with intimate wine and gastronomy experiences in two historical boutique wineries off-the-beaten track.

To understand Mendoza’s wine, you have to understand its people and culture as well as the varied landscapes, varieties and conditions. This unique experience discovers the true roots of Mendoza, as told by locals.

In the morning, you will be chauffeured to the boutique winery of one of Mendoza’s most renowned wine consultants – Karim Mussi. It is here where you will embark on an exploration of Argentina’s terroirs with an educative tasting of five wines produced by one winemaker, with the main difference being the soil, climate and environment. The two hour winery tour and tasting is set in a beautiful, historical home in one of Mendoza’s oldest wine regions – Coquimbito.

Maal wines in MendozaAfter grasping some of the different wine regions of Mendoza, and their flavours, you will head to another boutique producer in Chacras de Coria. Set in a beautiful century-old winery overlooking a picturesque hidden vineyard, with some of the oldest Malbec vines in the region, Maal Wines is the passion project of two life-long friends who make terroir Malbecs from three regions in Mendoza. After visiting the old vines with their agronomist, you will settle in at their beautiful outdoor restaurant designed for friends and family, where you will have an interactive gastronomy experience to learn the culture and food heritage of Mendoza. Preparing a fire together, you will get an insider’s experience of making traditional dishes including homemade empanadas and the renowned Argentine ‘asado’, accompanied by their delicious and exclusive wines.

The experience is finished with a typical Argentine dessert, before heading back for a siesta!
