Celebrate #TannatDay and #UruguayWineWeek with us!

The 14th April is #TannatDay – a day in which we are all given an excuse to raise a glass of Uruguayan Tannat and celebrate Uruguay’s champion variety in all its purple glory. But why stop there? Instead, we are celebrating Uruguayan wine all week with #UruguayWineWeek and an opportunity to explore the many different wines, wine regions and wine producers of Uruguay.

In collaboration with Uruguay.Wine, a gathering of Uruguayan winemakers and wine families, and an esteemed crowd of wine writers and communicators, we’ll be hosting a week of Uruguayan wine events online and would love you to be part of it! Here’s what’s coming up and how you can join in:

Celebrate #TannatDay: 14th April

Throughout the day on 14th April, we’ll be having live discussions about Tannat and the best wine pairings for the variety over Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Clubhouse. Post your favourite wine pairings and Tannat wines and tag in @southamericawineguide and @uruguay.wine with the hashtag #TannatDay so we can reshare and respond!

Throughout the day on Instagram @SouthAmericaWineGuide we’ll be hosting live interviews with wine writers around the world exploring their favourite Tannat wine pairings. In particular, you can catch up with Lisa Denning aka. @nycrestaurants at 3pm UK (10am EST); Holly Shaw aka. @winenotwhinemom at 4pm UK (11am EST); and with Kelly Mitchell aka. @kellymitchell #thewinesiren at 6pm UK (10am PST).

At 8pm GMT we’ll also be hosting a Clubhouse conversation on Tannat in the REAL WINE & SIPS club room with winemakers from Uruguay and other wine writers and wine lovers.

Instagram Live: Meet Uruguay’s Women in Wine

7pm UK (11 PST), 12th April

We’ll be hosting a series of Live interviews with Uruguay’s leading women in wine over Instagram Live @SouthAmericaWineGuide Join in and share your questions and thoughts with us as we meet some of the female pioneers of the industry and most promising winemakers today.

7pm: Kicking off from Seattle, is Uruguayan winemaker Mele Sosa, brand ambassador for Garzón in Maldonado, who will be talking about bringing Uruguayan wine to adventurous wine drinkers in the US

8pm: Meet Fabiana Bracco of Bracco Bosca winery in Atlantida, Canelones, who will be talking about making modern wine from traditional grape varieties in Uruguay

9pm: Meet winemaker Analía Lazaneo of Artesana winery in Las Brujas, Canelones, who is going to share her secrets for making Zinfandel and Tannat, among other varieties, in Uruguay

9.30pm: We’ll meet Pia Carrau of Bodega Cerro Chapeu in northern Uruguay who is going to share her experience of being the tenth-generation of vignerons in the family and explore the terroir of Rivera

 

Instagram Live: Beyond Tannat

6pm UK (10am PST), 15th April

Meet several winemakers in Uruguay as Amanda Barnes interviews them over Instagram Live with a quickfire series hosted @southamericawineguide from 5.30pm UK (starting at 9.30am PST; 12.30pm EST). We’ll also be inviting some wine writers and influencers to join the stream and share their own favourite wines, so please join in too with your own questions and comments!

5.30pm: Winemaker Juan Andrés Marichal explores the potential of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Canelones streaming from his winery, Marichal

6.30pm: Meet winemaker Gustavo Pisano from Pisano winery in Canelones, and learn about the potential of Uruguayan Sauvignon Blanc

7pm: Meet winemaker Santiago Deicas of Familia Deicas which makes wines all over Uruguay, and discover some of the less common varieties made here (including Uruguayan orange wine!)

8pm: Meet winemaker Marcelo Breganti of Viña Edén in Maldonado as we talk about the potential of Uruguayan sparkling wine

 

Instagram Live: Vineyard Tour!

7pm UK (10am PST), 16th April

Take a vineyard tour around the vines, terroir and climate of Uruguay! We’ll be joined by winemakers and agronomists as they tread through the vine rows (internet signal permitting!) on Friday.

6pm: Valeria Chiola, winemaker at Narbona in Carmelo, will tour us around the vineyards of their estate in western Uruguay on the river banks of the River Plate.

7.30pm: Garzón winery in Maldonado is one of the most impressive modern investments in the New World and we are getting an exclusive tour around the vines and wines of the estate!
