Viñas en Flor winery in Cafayate takes its name from the 1,200 rose trees which grow alongside their high-altitude vines.
Viñas en Flor winery produces a range of single variety wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Torrontés, and the winemaker is one of the best known in Salta – Jose Luis Mounier, the former manager and technician who worked alongside Michel Rolland at Bodegas Etchart.
Ayni winery is based in the mountains of Jujuy where their vineyard, Finca Moya, is the highest altitude vineyard in South America (and the second-highest vineyard in the world) at an extraordinary 3,329 metres above sea level. Ayni is made by winemaker Claudio Zuccino whose top wine, Uraqui, is made of organic grapes and aged in the Cava Mina Moya; the highest altitude wine cellar in the world.
Ayni winery is dedicated to making its production as eco-friendly as possible by producing their own compost for the vineyards and cutting down on the use of machinery. The winery also organises a range of alternative tourism experiences, including their philosophy and wine events, and nature walks and meditation days.
Los Toneles winery has been restored in the original 1920s building, located just outside of Mendoza city centre. The restored winery is a Cultural Heritage site of Mendoza and the bodega produces a wide range of wines including wines from their Uco Valley estate including top Cabernet Sauvignon.
The winery organises wine tastings from Monday through to Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Their restaurant, Abrasado, is one of the gems of Mendoza as they age their own beef (a rarity in Mendoza!)
Antucura winery and vineyards is a small production in Vista Flores in the Uco Valley. The winery takes its name from the word for ‘sun stone’ in the local ancient language Mapudungan.
Expect rich, concentrated red wines including their single-vineyard, single-varietal Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Famed flying winemaker and Bordeaux legend, Michel Rolland, is the winery’s consultant.
