More on the Wine Region
Home to some of the highest elevation vineyards in all of Mendoza, Uco Valley is known for producing elegant wines with great aging potential. The different altitudes within the Uco Valley region and the resulting microclimates have proven to be an excellent home for both red and white grape varieties. Uco Valley produces are very rich and flavorful wines Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc, as well as Chardonnay and Sémillon.
Nowadays, a growing number of young generations of winemakers are choosing to produce their wines with minimal intervention and ferment and age using alternative methods, such as cement or concrete vats, in order to better express the grape varietal’s characteristics and the terroir, which allows you to get a true sense of Uco Valley’s mountain wines. Within this region, wine labels will often include the name of the sub-region, as the different terroirs will impart wines distinguishable characteristics.

More on the Wine Region
The Altos Las Hormigas Tinto is produced from grapes sourced mainly from vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo.
Lujan de Cuyo lies on the edge of the Andes Mountains. Similar to other sub-regions in Mendoza, the Andes acts as a rain shadow, meaning that it acts as a barrier blocking the passage of rain clouds and therefore, the climate is dry and very sunny. Many winemakers have chosen to grow their vines at higher altitudes not only to moderate the intensity of heat grapes receive during the day but also to impart unique flavors and characteristics to the wine.
