Colchagua is home to some of Chile’s biggest players but it is also a hotbed of boutique wineries and small-scale producers. Here’s a handful of boutique wineries to visit in Colchagua where you are certain to get personal attention and a warm welcome.

One of the original boutique wineries in Colchagua, although the Laura Hartwig winery has grown, it still retains the charming feel of a bygone era. A horse-drawn carriage ride is a bonus if you want to keep young adults entertained.

More than boutique, Lugarejo is artisan and homemade. Elina and Fernando make wines in their back garden, where they have a small clean and orderly winery with a dozen barrels. A visit here is more like visiting a friend’s house for the afternoon; a friend who happens to make delicious wine.

British expat Matt Ridgway and his Chilean wife Ana welcome you into their home to taste their Mediterranean-style red blends from their own vineyard right on the doorstep. La Despensa is in Santa Ana, where there’s a small outcrop of boutique and hobby wineries worth checking out.

It’s not a winery per se, but if you want to see a boutique vineyard in Colchagua’s mountains, then head up to Tumuñan Lodge – one of the higher altitude plantings in Colchagua.
