Mayu Carménère Appassimento

Tasting note for Mayu Carmenere Appassimento. Viña Mayu. Elqui wines, Chile

Deep ruby

Intriguing nose with savoury notes and dried fruit.

Rich, full-bodied, smooth and just slightly sweet with smoky, balsamic notes.

Beef hotpot or oven-roast root vegetables with rosemary.

Variety: 100% Carmenère

Vintage: 2017

Alcohol: 15%

Winemaking notes: 60% of the grapes are harvested 2 months later than the rest, so they are partly dehydrated or raisined when they are picked. This process yields a more complex and rich fruit. Gentle punch-downs to ensure careful extraction of tannins, colour and aromas from the overripe grapes. The wine is partially aged in Premium American oak barrels for 8 months.

< $20 USD

Tasted for 2020 edition of the book by Chilean tasting panel: Amanda Barnes, Rodrigo Pica and Helen J. Conway on 12 December 2019.
